MIT funds its doctoral students as a matter of course: if you are admitted to a PhD program here, the offer normally includes a funding package built from research assistantships, teaching assistantships and fellowships, and that support is meant to cover tuition and living costs for the length of the program. The funding decision is made by the department at admission, which is why the first question for a prospective PhD student is about the program, not about a separate scholarship form.
Undergraduate financial aid is need based and available to international students, and MIT expects families to contribute what they can afford, so the practical aid conversation happens after admission through the financial aid office. Master's programs sit between those two worlds: some fund students through assistantships, some offer partial awards, and some are largely self-funded, which is where the named awards in the list below matter most.
The cards below reflect all three situations, so the funding type on each one is the fastest way to tell them apart. Where a record is funded through a lab or department, the official link on its card leads to that group's pages, which is also where current openings and deadlines live.
