Northeastern is known for its co-op program, and that shapes its funding the same way it shapes the university's finances: students alternate academic terms with paid work placements, and a meaningful share of study costs are met through co-op earnings rather than scholarships. Institutional awards still exist, mostly merit scholarships decided at admission, but aid for international undergraduates is limited and competitive, so international applicants should plan for co-op income and outside funding rather than a full ride from Northeastern.
Graduate funding at Northeastern runs through the colleges. Doctoral students in funded programs receive assistantships and stipends from their department, master's programs in professional fields carry partial scholarships, and the university also curates a list of external awards for veterans, foundation scholarships and employer programs, much of which appears below. The provider line on each card separates Northeastern-administered money from awards run by outside bodies.
For most international applicants the admission application is also the scholarship application, since merit awards are decided alongside admission. Each card's official link leads to the Northeastern office that runs the award, and that page states the current terms, because several of the external listings below restate their eligibility every cycle.
