Berkeley's funding is shaped by one fact that surprises international applicants: the University of California does not offer need-based financial aid to international undergraduates. Berkeley can still admit international students with merit awards, but those are limited and competitive, so an international applicant should not plan around institutional aid for a bachelor's degree here.
Graduate study is a different story, and it is where most of Berkeley's real funding lives. Doctoral students in almost every department are funded through a combination of fellowships, graduate student instructor positions and research assistantships, decided at admission or in the first year, and the Graduate Division publishes the fellowship and grant list that the records below draw on. Professional and master's degrees are mostly self-funded, with partial fellowships for some students.
That distinction explains the shape of this page: the cards lean toward graduate fellowships, departmental grants and named awards rather than undergraduate scholarships. The level line on each card is the first thing to check, and the official website button leads to the Berkeley office that runs the award, which is also where current calls and their deadlines are announced.
