Fully Funded Scholarships in China 2026: CSC and Provincial Programmes

Written by Zain Aqdas, Founder and lead researcher, Scholarships Atlas·Published 16 August 2026

China funds more international students than almost any other country through the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC), administered by the China Scholarship Council. A CSC award covers tuition, accommodation, a monthly stipend and often medical insurance, and it is available at hundreds of Chinese universities.

There are several routes into the programme: applying through your local Chinese embassy, applying directly to a designated university, or through bilateral agreements. The Silk Road Scholarship and provincial government scholarships, like those offered by Zhejiang or Guangdong, provide additional fully funded and tuition-waiver options.

Because so many Chinese universities host CSC scholars, you can usually find a fully funded place in your field, from engineering and medicine to business and the humanities. Many programmes don't require IELTS, which makes China particularly attractive to students who want to avoid English tests.

Deadlines are typically in the first half of the year for admission the following autumn, but they vary by university and application route. Search by country and funding type to see current CSC and provincial opportunities, and verify the exact coverage on the official portal before applying.
