Scholarships Without IELTS 2026: Where English Tests Aren't Required
Written by Zain Aqdas, Founder and lead researcher, Scholarships AtlasPublished 21 August 2026
Not every scholarship requires IELTS. If your previous degree was taught in English, many universities and government programmes accept a certificate or letter from your institution as proof instead. Others accept TOEFL, and some don't require an English test at all, particularly programmes taught in another language.
The Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) is a well-known example where IELTS isn't mandatory for many routes, and several European countries accept alternative proof of English proficiency. Language requirements vary from programme to programme, so it pays to filter specifically for scholarships without IELTS.
On Scholarships Atlas, use the language filter to see opportunities that accept no IELTS, TOEFL, alternative proof or no test at all. Combining that with the funding and study level filters narrows thousands of listings down to the ones that fit you.
One warning: "no IELTS required" never means "no English ability needed". Check what the programme actually accepts, and always confirm on the official provider page, because policies change.
