Study in Germany: Scholarships, Costs and Application Timeline
Written by Zain Aqdas, Founder and lead researcher, Scholarships AtlasPublished 5 August 2026
Germany is a top destination for international students, and for good reason: low tuition, a strong research culture, and major funding programmes like DAAD. Public universities charge little or no tuition, but living costs run EUR 800 to EUR 1,200 per month depending on the city. DAAD scholarships cover tuition where applicable plus a monthly stipend. Many programmes don't require IELTS if you have alternative proof of English proficiency. Apply early. Deadlines for the biggest scholarships are typically 6 to 12 months before the start of term.
