Study in the Netherlands: Scholarships, Costs and Application Timeline

The Netherlands funds international students mainly through university-specific scholarships, since there is no single government award for everyone. The Amsterdam Merit Scholarship covers tuition for strong applicants at the University of Amsterdam, TU Delft runs the Justus & Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarships, and Leiden offers the Minerva Scholarship Fund and LExS. At Groningen, the Eric Bleumink Scholarships fund students from developing countries. Tuition for EU students is about EUR 2,600 a year, while non-EU students pay more, and living costs run EUR 1,000 to EUR 1,400 a month. University scholarship deadlines sit between November and February for the following September intake, and many programmes have their own early rounds. Because funding is tied to admission, apply to the scholarship and the programme together.
