Study in South Korea: Scholarships, Costs and Application Timeline
Written by Zain Aqdas, Founder and lead researcher, Scholarships AtlasPublished 22 August 2026
South Korea's main funding is the Global Korea Scholarship, which covers tuition, a monthly allowance, airfare and a year of Korean language training. On top of that, the major universities run their own schemes: KAIST fully funds international students, Seoul National University offers the SNU President Fellowship for graduate researchers, and Korea University's GSIS funds international students through invitation and KOICA routes. Tuition at Korean universities ranges from about KRW 3 million to KRW 7 million a semester depending on the programme, with living costs in Seoul around KRW 900,000 a month. The GKS embassy track opens once a year in early spring and runs through your home country's Korean embassy, while university tracks follow each school's own admission calendar. Many STEM programmes are taught in English, which makes them accessible without Korean language ability.
