Scholarship Guides Stipendium Hungaricum (Hungary): How to Apply
Hungary · Application Guide
Stipendium Hungaricum is the Hungarian government's main scholarship. It funds bachelor's, master's, one-tier master's, doctoral and non-degree study at Hungarian higher-education institutions. You apply through the official online system (apply.stipendiumhungaricum.hu) and in parallel through your country's sending partner, a Hungarian embassy, ministry or council, which must nominate you.

Available study fields differ from partner country to partner country. Check the study fields offered for your country on the Stipendium Hungaricum website, or start an application in the DreamApply online system and select a relevant study programme.
You must also apply through the responsible sending-partner authority for your country (often the local Hungarian embassy, a ministry, or a council). Sending partners have their own deadlines and requirements, so contact them to confirm the exact procedure.
Applications are processed through the online application system (apply.stipendiumhungaricum.hu). You can browse around 30 universities (more than 900 study programmes) but may only select up to two choices. Required documents vary by level and nationality, so follow the Call for Applications annexes. Doctoral applicants may need to secure a supervisor / statement of the supervisor.
Your application must be submitted by the deadline of the annual call (in the 2026/27 cycle the deadline was 15 January 2026, 14:00 CET). Make sure all required documents are attached and all fields completed before submitting.
Sending partners nominate the strongest applicants (typically by the end of February), and nominated applications are forwarded to the chosen Hungarian higher-education institutions.
Universities contact nominated applicants directly to schedule admission exams (roughly mid-March to end of May). Scoring is out of 100; a minimum of 56 points is generally required for your application to be considered for the final award list.
After evaluating applications and exam results, Tempus Public Foundation (as coordinator) announces the official results, usually by the end of June / beginning of July.
Dates move every year — always confirm on the official portal before planning around them.
